The NIA investigators arrested Dr. Adnan Ali Sarkar after conducting a raid at his Kondhwa apartment in Pune.
In connection with the Maharashtra ISIS module investigation, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) made its fifth arrest on Thursday for encouraging the violent actions of the outlawed terrorist organization.
Following a raid on his Kondhwa residence in Pune, renowned anesthesiologist Dr. Adnan Ali Sarkar was taken into custody by NIA investigators.
It was the sixth arrest in the investigation that was reported on June 28 according to a statement issued by the NIA.
Zubair Noor Mohammed Shaikh alias Abu Nusaiba from Pune, Sharjeel Shaikh and Zulfikar Ali Barodawala from Thane, as well as Tabish Nasser Siddiqui from Mumbai, were the other four individuals detained by the central agency on July 3 following thorough searches.
According to the NIA press statement, during the raid at Sarkar’s Kondhwa home, various incriminating items, including electronic devices and several documents pertaining to ISIS, were discovered.
The investigation agency claimed that the accused planned a scheme to advance ISIS terrorist activities, also known as the Islamic State (IS), Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), Daish, Islamic State in Khorasan Province (ISKP), Islamic State Wilayat Khorasan, and Islamic State of Iraq and the Sham Khorasan (ISIS-K), according to the release.
According to NIA investigations, Sarkar participated in the ISIS plot through the group’s “Maharashtra ISIS module” by attempting to undermine the country’s unity, integrity, security, and sovereignty and wage war against the Indian government.
The organization declared that it would keep looking into the Maharashtra ISIS module case.
Dr. Sarkar has 16 years of experience managing problematic airways and administering regional anesthetics. He graduated from BJ Government Medical College in Pune with his MBBS in 2001 and his MD in Anaesthesia in 2006.
He is known to speak German, Hindi, Marathi, and English. He has co-authored 18 publications with specialists in the field, according to sources.
In a statement released on July 3, the NIA said that an intelligence-driven operation had disrupted an ISIS module in Maharashtra and detained four people for inciting terrorism.
Following information that the accused and their associates had enlisted young people and instructed them in the construction of IEDs and weaponry, the NIA conducted searches.
The accused had also distributed tools, such as “Do it Yourself kits” (DIY), for making IEDs and other small arms, such as handguns, among themselves.
In addition, the accused had produced provocative media content on the orders of their foreign-based ISIS handlers, which was published in the magazine “Voice of Hind,” to further the agenda of terror and violence of the outlawed organization, according to the statement from the anti-terror investigation agency.
Hospital authorities where the doctor worked described Sarkar as one of the best doctors in his field. “He was earlier working with another private hospital, but has been associated with the current hospital as a consultant,” they said.
Despite Dr. Sarkar’s professional achievements as a doctor with 16 years of experience, the evidence suggests his involvement with the extremist group has led to his arrest and questioning.
The NIA stated that it would continue its efforts to thoroughly investigate the Maharashtra ISIS module case and bring all those involved to justice.
As the investigation progresses, it remains crucial for law enforcement agencies to remain vigilant in countering terrorism and ensuring the safety and security of the nation and its citizens.
