Tension snowballs in Madhya Pradesh’s Narmadapuram on Friday following the move by the removal of a dargah located at Karbala Ghat on the banks of the Narmada River by the municipal authorities.
According to the communist members, the structure was removed without the presence of representatives. Further, the community members also said that the administration burnt the clothes placed on the dargah and said that the incident had hurt religious sentiments.
Meantime, the members have also demanded an investigation into the move and have urged for action against those who are responsible for that. On talking about the action, Mohammad Junaid Taji, district secretary, Muslim Committee, said that the dargah was an old center where people of faith had been offering prayers.
“If the municipal administration claims that only the permanent construction was removed, then who burnt the cloth with religious inscriptions placed on the dargah? This matter should be investigated fairly and those responsible should face action,” Taji said.
Furthermore, questions have also been raised on the sensitivity of actions that occurred without involving representatives from the community. Chief Municipal Officer (CMO) Narmadapuram Municipality, Vaibhav Deshmukh, however, rejected the claims raised by the community.
“The municipal staff did not carry out any such action. I have no information about any incident of burning a religious cloth. If any such incident comes to light, an inquiry will be conducted and further action will be taken according to the findings,” Deshmukh said.
Deshmukh said that the municipality was directed to remove religious structure after receiving instruction from senior officials. He said that the municipality removed only the permanent construction, which was part of the action, and rejected that the employees burnt any cloth that covered the dargah.
