As tensions soar between India and Pakistan following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has lashed out at Pakistan’s Bilawal Bhutto Zardari over his provocative remarks on the Indus Waters Treaty. Responding to Bhutto’s statement—“either our water will flow through it or our blood”—Owaisi cautioned against incendiary rhetoric, invoking the tragic assassination of Bhutto’s mother, former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, in a 2007 terrorist attack.
Speaking to reporters in Maharashtra, Owaisi urged the Pakistani leader to avoid “childish commentary” and reflect on his family’s history. “Does he not remember what happened to his grandfather? Does he not remember what happened to his mother?” he said, in a sharp rebuke.
Owaisi accused Pakistan of attempting to fuel communal tensions within India, alleging the involvement of the ISI and other terror groups in the Pahalgam attack that targeted non-Muslims. “They want to create a divide between Hindus and Muslims in India. That’s the reason behind the attack,” he said, while urging Indians to remain united across political lines.
The AIMIM leader also demanded that Pakistan be reinstated on the FATF grey list, citing its continued funding of terrorism through illicit channels.
India, for the first time, suspended the Indus Waters Treaty in response to the Pahalgam killings, which claimed at least 26 lives. In a series of diplomatic retaliations, both nations revoked visas, and Pakistan further escalated matters by closing its airspace to Indian flights and suspending the Simla Agreement.
