A resident hailing from Saharanpur has alleged that unidentified men claiming to be officials of the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) attempted to forcibly take him from his home without legal authority, fired at him as he fled, and later subjected him and his family to intimidation after he approached authorities seeking action.
The resident, identified as Wahid Khan, alleged that the incident initially occurred on 27 June 2026 at around 1:19 p.m., when six to seven unidentified men arrived at his residence. He claimed the men identified themselves as members of the ATS unit based in Deoband but did not produce a warrant or any official documents before allegedly attempting to take him into custody.
“According to me, on 27 June 2026 at around 1:19 PM, approximately 6–7 unidentified men arrived at my house. They claimed that they were officials from ATS Deoband. I state that they tried to forcibly take me with them without showing any warrant or following any legal procedure,” Khan told FoEJ Media through a text message.
Khan further said that he ran from the spot fearing for his safety. During his escape, he alleged that two gunshots were fired in his direction. Although he managed to escape, he claimed to have sustained injuries while fleeing. He said he remained away from home and hid in a forest area until 2 July 2026, fearing for his life.
“After returning, I submitted written complaints to the Police Station Behat, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Saharanpur, the District Magistrate (DM) of Saharanpur, and through the UP Police helpline, as well as by email to the concerned authorities. Despite these efforts, I believe no proper FIR or impartial investigation was initiated,” Khan told FoEJ Media.
Khan further claimed that there is CCTV footage and other information that he believes can help identify the individuals involved and the vehicle allegedly used during the incident. The material and footage, however, have not been acccessed by FoEJ Media.
Khan also alleged that on 8 July 2026, two individuals whom he believed were associated with the ATS came to Police Station Behat. He claimed that, in the presence of the Station House Officer (SHO), he was pressured to withdraw his complaint and was allegedly told that no ATS team had visited his residence. Khan said the incident heightened concerns for his own safety and that of his family.
In another allegation, Khan said his cousin, Mohd. Imran Khan, who had been assisting him with his legal proceedings, including matters before the Supreme Court of India, was also targeted.
He alleged that around 21–22 July 2026, Sub-Inspector Sanjay Kumar Singh Lamba of Police Station Behat called his cousin and threatened him for supporting Khan’s legal efforts.
Khan further alleged that on 26 July 2026, police personnel took his cousin from their village and later implicated him in a criminal case, resulting in his judicial custody. He claimed the action was taken because of his cousin’s support in pursuing legal remedies. These allegations, however, have not been independently verified by FoEJ Media.
“According to me, on or around 21–22 July 2026, SI Sanjay Kumar Singh Lamba of Police Station Behat allegedly called my cousin on his mobile phone and threatened him for supporting me and helping me pursue my legal case,” Khan said.
FoEJ Media got cognizance of the alleged incident through Khan’s social media post where he said, “Today is July 22, 2026, and no action has been taken so far.”
“There is neither any FIR nor any criminal case against me. My only ‘crime’ is that I am a Muslim. Until I find justice, I will keep making videos and speaking the truth,” Khan added.
