A resident of Bihar’s Kishanganj district has alleged that police have charged him in connection with the NEET paper leak protest despite him being abroad for the last four months.
In the purported video shot in Russia, Mohammad Saqad urged the police to let him off as he was not even in Bihar when the protest unfolded.
“I have been in Russia for the past four months. My name also figures among those who participated in the July 24 protest against the NEET paper leak. I request the Bahadurganj administration to remove my name. I will be indebted to them,” he said in the video.
The incident came to light when the video went viral on the Internet. Meantime, when the news agency PTI contacted Kishanganj SP Hari Mohan Shukla, he neither denied the allegations nor gave confirmation to it.
“All those who have any grievances related to the protests could approach the police for redressal,” the SP said. Meanwhile, Mohammad Saqad has demanded a fair investigation into that matter, urging authorities to remove his name from the FIR.
The state government earlier this week on Monday announced that it would withdraw all the cases that were registered in connection with the protest following the NEET paper leak. The state government also said that it would release those arrested in light of the incident.
A notification that was issued by the state home department stated that the government was withdrawing “all FIRs, complaints, and show-cause notices issued in connection with incidents that took place before 6 am on July 26.” Furthermore, the department mentioned that all the persons arrested in connection with the protest would also be released.
As many as 694 persons, including minors, counting to half of them, were detained during the protest. The announcement of the department came following AISA president Neha Bora, who called on Bihar DGP Vinay Kumar and submitted a memorandum that asked for the withdrawal of all cases and the release of all those who were arrested.
