Rishipal, who hails from Bhawarki Jadid village in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahabad, alleges that police tortured him because of a family dispute. The police detained him, beaten, and subjected to casteist insults. Following protests and uproar, a case was filed against two policemen, who, along with the chowki in-charge, have been suspended.
Rishipal reported that on July 20, after a disagreement with his spouse, the latter filed a complaint at Dhakia Chowki. He claims that around 5 PM, Constables Jaidev Singh and Amit Kumar arrived at his home, took him into custody, and transported him to the police station.
“On July 20, I had an argument with my wife, who then went to Dhakia Chowki to file a complaint. Around 5 PM, Constables Jaidev Singh and Amit Kumar came to my house and took me to the police station,” Rishipal said.
Rishipal claims that around 1 AM, the officers, who were reportedly drunk, questioned him about his caste and used casteist insults while violently beating him with their fists, kicks, and sticks. He said they injured him severely, causing him to faint at the station. When he woke up, they forced him to massage their hands and feet throughout the night.
“They injured my private parts, and I fainted in the chowki. When I regained consciousness, they forced me to massage their hands and feet throughout the night,” he said and The Observer Post reported.
The next morning, the police released Rishipal, who then showed his injuries to his wife. The news quickly spread, and a video of his injuries went viral on social media, causing anger within the Dalit community.
