AIMPLB and Muslim Organizations in Bihar to Protest Against Waqf Amendment Bill 2024

Date:

Several Muslim organizations in Bihar, under the guidance of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), are planning a major protest against the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024. The demonstration will take place on March 26, 2025, from 10 AM to 2 PM at Gardani Bagh in Patna. The protest aims to raise awareness and mobilize opposition to the bill, which critics argue undermines the rights of Muslims and jeopardizes their religious properties.

The AIMPLB, along with other groups such as Jamaat-e-Islami Hind and Jamiat Ulema Bihar, has condemned the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024, calling it a “tyrannical law” aimed at dispossessing Muslims of their religious properties. They argue that the bill encroaches on the constitutional rights of minorities. Protest organizers have urged Imams across Bihar to highlight the issue in their sermons, stressing the religious importance of Waqf and the harmful implications of the proposed amendments.

The Waqf Amendment Bill has been widely criticized for purportedly enabling government interference in Muslim religious institutions and properties. Representatives of the AIMPLB have emphasized that any amendments that threaten Waqf properties or go against the intentions of the donors are unacceptable and violate Islamic law. The protests are being viewed as a response to what community leaders describe as the government’s ongoing disregard for their concerns.

The protest saw the participation of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, who condemned the Waqf Amendment Bill for its potential to jeopardize Waqf properties and essential community assets, including graveyards and religious sites. Owaisi argued that the bill is unconstitutional and raised concerns about its impact on the Muslim community’s identity.
