Curfew Imposed in Manipur’s Jiribam after 11 Militants Killed in Encounter with CRPF

Ahead of fresh Manipur Violence, district administration in Manipur’s Jiribam imposed a curfew on Monday. As  the Kuki-Zo organizations called for a complete shutdown to protest the encounter of suspected militants. 

Who will be exempted from the curfew?

The exemption from the curfew has been granted to the Government agencies/ functionaries and security forces, these are involved in maintaining law and order and other essential services.  

The curfew also states that permission will also be required in cases of emergencies, marriages, funerals, ect but within the scheduled area.

As reported by the Hindustan Times, The DM cited the police report, which expressed apprehensions of widespread disturbance to peace and danger to human lives due to “unlawful activities of some anti-social elements for the furtherance of their evil designs”.

Meanwhile, the kuki-Zo said that the dead were “village volunteers” and further on Tuesday, announced a total shutdown  “starting from 5:00 AM to 6:00 PM in honor of the victims and to express our collective grief and solidarity to those who were brutally shot dead”.

What happened on Monday?

In a fresh violence in Manipur, eleven suspects were shot to death in a gunfight with security forces on Monday. As per the reports, they were killed after insurgents in camouflage uniforms armed with weapons fired at a police station and an adjacent CRPF camp in Jiribam district.
