Israeli attacks in Gaza killed 122 Palestinians in April: UN report

Date:

At least 122 Palestinians, including 22 children and eight women, lost their lives in Israeli attacks and settler violence across Gaza and the occupied West Bank during April, the UN Human Rights Office in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OHCHR OPT) said in its latest monthly assessment.

The report detailed repeated strikes on homes, displacement camps, schools, mosques, humanitarian facilities and civilian vehicles, while also documenting a rise in settler attacks and forced displacement in the occupied West Bank.

Gaza bombardment killed 111 Palestinians

According to OHCHR, Israeli military operations in Gaza killed at least 111 Palestinians during April, among them 18 children and seven women. Airstrikes, artillery shelling, drone attacks and gunfire continued across several parts of the enclave throughout the month.

The report said Israeli forces targeted civilian areas on multiple occasions. On April 8, an Israeli drone strike near Al Nabulsi Junction in Gaza City killed Al Jazeera journalist Mohamed Al Wishah while he was travelling in a car. The UN office stated that his killing raised the number of journalists killed in Gaza since October 2023 to 295.

Israeli gunfire in Jabalia Camp on April 11 killed a 10-year-old Palestinian boy, the report added.

Another drone strike near Al Qassam Mosque in Beit Lahiya on April 22 killed five Palestinians, including three boys aged between nine and 14. Two days later, shelling near Kamal Adwan Hospital killed a woman along with her two children.

On April 25, an Israeli drone attack struck a tent being used as a phone charging station in Gaza City, killing two men.

By the end of April, Gaza’s Health Ministry recorded 824 Palestinian deaths since the announcement of a ceasefire agreement earlier this year.

UN raises concern over attacks on police, aid workers

The UN rights office also expressed alarm over Israeli attacks targeting police personnel and humanitarian workers in Gaza.

An Israeli drone strike in Al Mawasi near Khan Younis on April 24 reportedly hit a vehicle carrying police officers inside an encampment for displaced Palestinians. The attack killed eight people, including four police personnel and four displaced civilians.

OHCHR stated that it has documented six separate Israeli attacks since the beginning of 2026 that killed 26 police officers in Gaza. The office stressed that police personnel qualify as civilians under international humanitarian law unless they directly participate in combat operations.

Humanitarian workers also continued to face deadly attacks during relief operations.

A driver contracted by the World Health Organization was killed in Khan Younis on April 6 while transporting staff involved in medical evacuation work.

Two contractors linked to UNICEF died in a drone strike on a water distribution point in eastern Gaza City on April 17. Another strike on NGO workers near a water well in Gaza City on April 20 killed one worker and injured four others.

According to OCHA figures cited in the report, Israeli attacks in Gaza have killed at least 593 aid workers since October 2023.

Israeli raids and settler attacks intensify in West Bank

In the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, Israeli forces killed at least six Palestinians during raids conducted in April. The victims included four children and one elderly woman.

Among them was 68-year-old Sabriya Amin Shamasneh, who died after Israeli forces allegedly assaulted her during a raid on her home in Jiyus on April 7.

Israeli troops also shot dead 17-year-old Mohammad Murad Mahmoud Rayyan during a raid in Beit Duqqu on April 16, according to the report. OHCHR said soldiers prevented medical teams from reaching him after the shooting.

The UN office also documented growing settler violence across Palestinian communities.

On April 21, an Israeli settler allegedly shot and killed 14-year-old Aws An Na’san and 32-year-old Jihad Abu Na’em near a school in Al Mughayyir.

OHCHR said at least nine Palestinians killed by settlers in 2026 were later linked to Israeli military reservists, describing it as evidence of increasing militarisation among settler groups.
