In a significant move aimed at fostering national unity, Mufti Shamoon Qasmi, president of the Uttarakhand Madrasa Education Board, has announced that the state’s madrasas will incorporate Operation Sindoor into their curriculum starting in 2025.
The decision follows a meeting between a Muslim community delegation and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, during which the delegation expressed strong support for the military action and affirmed its allegiance to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “The country comes first,” the delegation reportedly conveyed.
Operation Sindoor was launched by the Indian Armed Forces on May 7, in retaliation for a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22 that claimed the lives of 26 civilians. The operation targeted terror infrastructure across the border in Pakistan. A ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan was reached shortly after, on May 10.
Explaining the rationale behind the syllabus update, Qasmi told ANI, “We are including Operation Sindoor in the syllabus as the country is paramount. We don’t believe in the two-nation theory. We don’t differentiate between Hindus and Muslims.”
In a parallel move, the Indian government has announced that a cross-party delegation of Members of Parliament will be dispatched to various countries to brief foreign leaders on the objectives and outcomes of Operation Sindoor.
