Ajmer Egg Vendor Accuses Councillor’s Husband of Harassment, Alleges Discrimination

Date:

A young Muslim egg vendor, Arif Mohammad, has accused Arvind Parashar, husband of local councillor Pratibha Parashar, of repeated harassment, claiming he’s being selectively targeted under the guise of anti-vending regulations, in Ajmer’s Gyan Vihar Colony.

Arif, who has been selling eggs in the area for over a year, alleges he’s being asked to vacate his spot while other vendors nearby continue without interference. “This is my family’s only source of income. If rules exist, they should apply to everyone, not just me,” he told local reporters as reported by the Observer Post

The issue drew political attention when Ashish Soni, district convener of the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP), submitted a formal complaint to the District Collector, accusing Parashar of bias. Soni called it a case of selective enforcement and urged authorities to investigate.

In response, councillor Pratibha Parashar denied the allegations, stating the vending location was problematic due to proximity to an empty lot known for antisocial activities. “We advised him to shift for safety reasons, but the matter is being unnecessarily politicized,” she said.

Local opinion remains divided. Some residents believe it’s a legitimate civic concern; others see it as evidence of discrimination. “Rules must be enforced uniformly,” said one resident as reported by the Observer Post.

The District Collector’s office confirmed receiving the complaint and has promised to review the matter. Meanwhile, Arif continues to seek clarity and fairness. “I just want to work in peace. I’m not asking for special treatment, just equal treatment,” he said and the Observer Post quoted.
