Patna Woman Dies After Alleged Balcony Push; Live-in Partner on the Run

Date:

A 22-year-old nursing student, Sophia Parveen  also known by her family as Rukhsar  died under suspicious circumstances after allegedly being pushed off a third-floor balcony by her live-in partner, Amit Kumar. The incident took place at the Soho Nirmala Apartments in the Ashokpuri locality of the city.

Disturbing CCTV footage, now widely circulated on social media, captures the moment Sophia fell from the residential building and struck a boundary wall before hitting the ground. Instead of alerting authorities, Amit is seen in another security clip later transporting her bloodied body to the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) in an auto-rickshaw. He reportedly abandoned her on a stretcher at the hospital and fled.

The tragedy came to light only after a friend of Sophia’s spotted news of the incident online. Her family, unaware of her death for three days, eventually identified her at the IGIMS morgue.

Sophia’s sister, Shabana Khatoon, recalled that Amit had previously visited their home in Bettiah, introducing himself as a police officer. “He came in a Scorpio, spent the night, and said he worked in law enforcement. We believed him,” she said. Sophia, who was juggling her nursing studies with a hospital job in Patna, had described him simply as a friend at the time.

Further investigation has revealed that Amit and Sophia had been living together for over a month. Police say he used fake identification, including a forged Aadhaar card, to rent the apartment and presented the pair as a married couple. “The documents seemed real, so I didn’t question it,” said the landlord, who is now cooperating with police.

Authorities have registered a murder case at Danapur police station and launched a search for Amit Kumar, who remains at large. A lookout notice has also been issued for the auto-rickshaw driver involved in transporting Sophia’s body to the hospital.

As the investigation continues, Sophia’s family is demanding swift justice for what they describe as a deeply deceptive and brutal betrayal.
