A 19-year-old Muslim youth hailing from Bhawanipur village in Sambhal district, Uttar Pradesh, died in a private hospital in Moradabad while undergoing treatment after he was allegedly abducted and brutally assaulted by a group of men while he was returning home after being released on bail.
The deceased, identified as Anas, alias Ayan, succumbed to his injuries on Friday after being admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) for eight days.
The sequence of the incident as shared by Anas’s family with FoEJ Media started when a scuffle between children occurred on June 18 ahead of which a case was registered against Anas under Section 151 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (preventive detention to avert a breach of peace).
“On 11 June, Anas had a fight with some people. They also beat Anas, but later they filed a false case against him instead. After that, on the 18th, we were bringing him back after getting him released on bail. On the way, those people stopped us, broke the car windows, assaulted me as well, and took Anas away with them,” Anas’s father, Azimuddin, said.
Following the incident, after approximately 1 hour, Anas’s father reached the police station to register a missing complaint; however, his plea was not heard initially. Later on, police learned about a boy being dumped in a critically injured condition near the Bhawanipur bridge of the village. On reaching the spot, it was learned that the boy was Anas.
“After this, we took Anas to the police station, and from there he was taken to the hospital. At the first hospital, only a CT scan and some basic tests were done, but then he was taken to another hospital. After that, he was shifted to another hospital in Sambhal, and later, for proper treatment, he was taken to a hospital in Moradabad,” Azimuddin revealed.
The treatment started on the 19th of June, and on the 26th of June, Anas succumbed to his injuries.
According to the family, Anas initially managed to escape and took shelter inside a hotel. However, the attackers learned about his escape, reached the spot, assaulted him, and took him away in a vehicle.
