Nizamabad Police arrested Mandula Balu, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) town president of Armoor, on Monday in connection with the alleged assault of a school principal following a row over the teaching of Urdu at a private school in Armoor.
The police said that he was apprehended from Ankapoor’s guest house, which belonged to Paidi Rakesh Reddy, MLA, Armooor Assembly constituency.
The arrest comes ahead of the incident reportedly stemming from an incident where Bablu, along with his supporters, allegedly entered the school premises on Saturday and alleged an unauthorized teaching of Urdu to primary students. An altercation unfolded soon, and the school’s principal was allegedly assaulted, reportedly in the presence of police personnel.
Ahead of this, a case was registered under Sections 329(4), 115(2), 118(1), and 324(4) read with Section 315 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on a complaint filed by Mallaiah, correspondent of Bharat Chandra High School. In his complaint, he alleged that Bablu assaulted and verbally abused the school’s principal, Amer Khan, during a confrontation over teaching Urdu.
Police also said that the accused was held in custody as a part of the investigation and will be produced before the court. Meantime, the investigation of the exact circumstances surrounding the dispute is underway.
Alongside this, the police also detained Armoor MLA Paidi Rakesh Reddy at Bhiknoor. The MLA was on his way from Hyderabad to take part in the protest against the alleged teaching of Urdu at Bharat Chandra School in Perkit under Armoor Municipality. The controversy behind the incident occurred on Saturday after parents, BJP leaders, and members of Hindu organizations alleged that Hindu students at the school were taught Urdu and Namaz.
The incident made rounds over the internet, gaining strong political reactions.
“Telangana is gradually becoming a laboratory of the RSS under the watch of the Congress government: Strongly condemn the attack on an Urdu teacher of Bharat Chandra High School in Armoor, Nizamabad District, by alleged RSS/BJP workers. What is even more shocking is that the attack reportedly took place in the presence of the inspector and sub-inspector of police, Armoor Town. Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) spokesperson Amjadullah Khan said.
