Renowned Islamic Scholar Salman Husaini Nadwi Passes Away in Lucknow

Date:

Renowned Islamic scholar, author, and former senior faculty member of Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama, Maulana Salman Husaini took his last breath Monday in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow.

Founder of Jamia Syed Ahman Shaheed and Jamiyat Shabab ul Islam, he was known for his scholarly and religious knowledge, with a strong devotion for decades to teaching thousands of students about Islam. His family lineage traces back to the family of Nadwis, one of the most respected scholarly lineages in the Indian subcontinent. He was a nephew of Islamic thinker Maulana Abdul Hasan Ali Hasani Nadwi, a figure who was well respected in the Indian subcontinent.

Carrying forward his lineage’s legacy, he remained committed to strengthening the intellectual and moral foundations of the Muslim community. He memorized the Holy Quran at a very young age and completed his higher Islamic education at Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ultama in Lucknow. Later on, he acquired advanced studies in Hadith at Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University in Saudi Arabia. During his career, Maulana Nadwi has authored numerous books and delivered lectures in India and abroad.

Throughout his career, Maulana Nadwi authored numerous books and delivered lectures across India and abroad. While some of his views in later years sparked debate, his contributions to Islamic scholarship and education earned him widespread recognition. Apart from this, he also served in several prominent Islamic organizations and was associated with the All India Muslim Personal Law Board for many years.

His passing has been mourned by the Muslim community all over the country, with Indian Muslims for Civil Rights (IMCR) describing his passing as an immense and irreparable loss.

The organization described his passing as an immense and irreparable loss not only for the Muslim community in India but also for the entire Muslim world.

IMCR President Mohammad Adeeb, in his condolence message, said:

”The passing of Maulana Salman Husaini Nadwi has personally been a great shock to me. He was nearly ten years younger than I was. I used to visit Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama during the period when he was a student there. I had close personal ties with his family. Witnessing his extraordinary intelligence, vast knowledge, refined manner of speaking, and exceptional abilities even in those days, I was convinced that this young man would one day become a guiding light for the Muslim community—and history proved exactly that. He became an unparalleled orator, a fearless preacher, a distinguished scholar, and a profound thinker whose intellectual and scholarly contributions represented Indian Muslims across the world.”
