Amidst the massive protest today at Jantar Mantar, the security forces used tear gas shells to disperse thousands of supporters of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). The protestors gathered in Delhi to march to the Parliament on the first day of the monsoon session on Monday.
The police reportedly used sticks and batons to disperse the crowd who came together at the protest sites for the “Chalo Sansad” march following the alleged paper leak in NEET, leading to a demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
However, the Delhi Police post on X read, “Some segments from media have mentioned sporadic use of violence/detentions at Jantar Mantar by Delhi Police.
It is informed that no such incident has taken place and the protest is being handled professionally. All are requested not to fall prey to any rumors/misgivings and to assist Delhi Police in maintaining peace and public order at and around the site.”
Additionally, mobile internet was also shut in parts of Delhi. Meanwhile, the CJP has asked its supporters to “remain calm and maintain peace.”
“Even if you’ve been stopped at certain points, remain calm and maintain peace. We will only win this with peace and love,” the party said.
Several metro stations in Delhi also faced chaos following the closure of five metro stations—Rajiv Chowk, Janpath, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, and Seva Teerth—for security concerns.
Earlier than this on Sunday, police had denied permission for large gatherings and warned that any person violating the order could face the consequences.
“Protest marches, processions, demonstrations, and assemblies of five or more persons are strictly prohibited, except at the designated protest site at Jantar Mantar, with prior permission,” the police said in a post on X.
The protest was organized by the Cockroach Janata Party, a satirical youth-driven online party that was formed in 2026 after Chief Justice of India, Surya Kant, compared unemployed young people to “cockroaches” during a Supreme Court hearing, triggering massive anger. Soon it gained fame across social media platforms, gaining followers by the millions.
