Five Arrested in Mawana Over I Love Muhammad Poster Amid Communal Tensions

Date:

Tensions flared in Mawana town late Friday night after a poster bearing the words “I Love Muhammad” was placed at a central intersection, triggering protests and prompting a swift police response. Authorities have since arrested five individuals in connection with the incident.

The poster, which appeared without prior approval from local authorities, led to early morning demonstrations on Saturday as some residents expressed objections to its public display. Officers responded promptly to remove the poster and prevent the situation from deteriorating.

Police have identified the arrested individuals as Idrish, Tasleem, Rihan, Gulfam, and Haroon. They have been booked under Section 353 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to statements that may incite public disorder.

“The matter was taken seriously, and legal action has been initiated based on a complaint by the outpost in-charge,” said Station House Officer Poonam Jadon. “All five have been detained, and the investigation is ongoing. Others found involved will also be held accountable.”

In response to the unrest, security has been tightened throughout the town. Additional police personnel have been stationed at key locations, with senior officials overseeing ground operations to maintain order. Patrolling has also been stepped up to discourage misinformation and prevent any potential flare-ups.

The district administration has urged residents to stay calm and avoid sharing unverified information. Officials emphasized the importance of community cooperation to ensure peace prevails.

Sources within the administration confirmed that monitoring efforts are in place, particularly in areas considered sensitive. No further disturbances were reported as of Saturday evening.
