“Yeh Baba Ka Raj Hai”: Dalit Man Beaten to Death in UP’s Raebareli

With the surge in the barbaric atrocities on Dalit community, yet another incident has emerged. A 38 year old man, identified as Hariom has been lynched to death in Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Barele district on Octpber 2, earlier this month.The lynching unfolded when the Hariom was mistaken for a thief. As per the latest reports, police have arrested five people in connection with the horrific launching and killing. 

The sequence of the incident starts when  Hariom went to meet his wife, a Sweeper in a local bank. He reportedly lost his route and made his way to Ishwardaspur village, where he was caught, questioned, and then subsequently lynched to death. 

The video of the incident later made rounds on the social media platforms, depicting Hariom lying on the ground, with attackers pressing his leg on Hariom’s face, smashing Hariom’s head. The reports reportedly chanted “Ye baba ka raj hai,” referring to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.   Hariom eventually succumbed to his injuries and the body was dumped near Prayagraj- Lucknow railway line. A case has been registered and five people have been arrested as per the reports.  

The killing of Hariom has triggered a row with the Uttar Pradesh Congress unit sharing the videos on social media, stating, “In Yogi Raj, Uttar Pradesh has become synonymous with the cremation ground for Dalits.”  

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav too slammed  the BJP government over the rising number of crimes against Dalits. Yadav highlighted that  Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of such crimes, 15,130 cases, followed by Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

“The BJP government’s work should not just be seen as biased; the pain and tears it has caused should also be noted. In UP, Dalit oppression is at its peak,” Yadav said in a post on X,
