AAP Releases Final List for Delhi Elections; Kejriwal to Contest from New Delhi Seat

Date:

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) released its fourth and final list of 38 candidates for the Delhi Assembly elections on Sunday, naming party chief Arvind Kejriwal for the New Delhi seat for the fourth consecutive time and Chief Minister Atishi for Kalkaji for the second consecutive term. The list largely retains the party’s 38 incumbent MLAs.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has now announced all 70 candidates for the Delhi Assembly elections. In an effort to counter anti-incumbency, the party has dropped 20 sitting MLAs from its list.

In its fourth list, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has fielded Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj from Greater Kailash for the fourth consecutive time, and Somnath Bharti from Malviya Nagar for the same term. Shoaib Iqbal will contest from Matia Mahal, and Durgesh Pathak has been nominated again from Rajinder Nagar.

Pooja Naresh Balyan, the wife of jailed AAP MLA Naresh Balyan, has been given a ticket to contest from Uttam Nagar. The sitting MLA from Kasturba Nagar, Madan Lal, has been replaced by Ramesh Pehalwan, who joined the party earlier today. Kejriwal, in a press conference, praised Pehalwan as a “very active social worker.”

The Congress has so far announced 21 candidates for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, while the BJP has not yet declared any candidates. The current term of the Delhi Assembly ends on February 23, and the elections are expected to be held in the same month.

In the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) secured 62 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 8 seats.
