The Shamli Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against six individuals on Wednesday, which includes an advocate. The FIR was registered allegedly for circulating misleading information on social media following the Allahabad High Court’s proceedings in the Ayush Malik conversion case. The FIR was filed under Kotwali Shamli Police Station under Section 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) ahead of a complaint by Sub-Inspector Mohd Jahangir at Kotwali Shamli Police Station.
The individuals in the FIR are Karishma Aziz, Nikhat Ali (@INikhatAli), The Muslim (@TheMuslimSphere), Wasim Akram Tyagi (@WasimAkramTyagi), Syed Kaif Hasan (@kaifsyedhasan), and Nadeem Saifi, the Live Law highlights.
As per the FIR, the accused persons allegedly circulated information on X and Facebook that the Allahabad High Court had rebunked Shamli Police.
The police said that the information was “misleading and factless,” saying that the High Court neither required nor received any counter-affidavit. Taking to the social media account X, Shamli Police said that on June 6, earlier this year, Ayush’s father, Devraj Singh Malik, lodged an FIR at Kotwali Shamli, claiming that Chandni Qureshi, her father, and other family members converted his son to Islam.
The police said Chandni Qureshi and her father, Islam Qureshi, were arrested, and then they were sent to jail on June 7. Later they were granted bail by the District and Sessions Judge, Shamli, at Kairana on July 24.
Later on September 9, 2006, Sultan Qari, Ayush Malik’s friend, approached the Allahabad High Court to allow Malik to live independently. Following this, the court asked the Superintendent of Police, Shamli, to produce Malik, and the court granted freedom to Malik to live as per his choice.
The Live Law report that the police have said that the High Court’s decision was being misrepresented and that the information being shared was false and could disturb public peace. In its press note, Shamli Police urged people not to believe or share any information, post, or video on social media without verifying it first.
