Security forces used tear gas to disperse student and women protesters marching towards Raj Bhavan, amid growing unrest. Demonstrators are demanding the removal of the state’s Director General of Police (DGP) and security advisor, according to officials.

Curfew Imposed in Imphal East and West Districts

A total curfew has been imposed by authorities in Imphal East and West. The curfew in both the districts started from 11 am on Tuesday, September 10. The earlier curfew relaxation from 5:00 am to 10:00 pm was revoked with immediate effect, according to official orders released on Monday.

Essential services such as healthcare, public utilities, courts, media, and movement for air passengers are exempt from the curfew. In parallel, joint operations by the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and other security forces have resulted in the seizure of a large cache of arms and ammunition in multiple districts. The recoveries followed intelligence-driven searches in Churachandpur District.

Escalating Violence and Weapons Recovery

Manipur Police have uncovered advanced rocket tails and drones reportedly used in recent attacks. Senior police officials refuted earlier claims that no sophisticated weaponry was involved, underscoring the escalating severity of the ongoing conflict.

Government’s Justification for the Ban

The aim of the internet ban is to stop the mobilization of mobs and prevent public and private property vandalism. The internet shut down is to prevent the  spread of hate speeches as per the reports.
