Dalit Student Attacked in Jodhpur University Hostel; ABVP Leader Named, Police Invoke SC/ST Act

Date:

A Dalit student at Jai Narayan Vyas University’s New Campus in Jodhpur was allegedly assaulted inside a university hostel by ABVP leader Ravindra Singh Banta and several others. The incident took place in the Bhagat Ki Kothi police station area and has triggered protests from Dalit rights groups.

The student, Kamal Kishore, a final-year B.Sc student from Jaisalmer, said the attack happened after he chose not to attend a welcome event for BJP leader Satish Poonia. While others joined the gathering, Kishore remained in his hostel room. He alleges that Banta and a group of men forcibly entered his room and beat him.

Kishore suffered a fractured finger and internal injuries to his ribs and abdomen. He is currently being treated at Mathuradas Mathur Hospital.

The incident reportedly involved caste-based abuse, prompting Dalit organizations to stage a protest at the local police station. Authorities have registered a case under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Investigating officer Rajeev Bhadu confirmed that a formal probe is underway.
