Delhi High Court Dismisses Plea, Moitra Vacates Government Bungalow

Date:

A day after the Delhi High Court rejected her interim plea seeking a stay on eviction from her government accommodation, Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra voluntarily vacated her bungalow in the national capital today. The bungalow, allotted to her as a Member of Parliament, became the center of controversy following her expulsion from Lok Sabha last month for alleged unethical conduct.

Moitra, representing Bengal, had received an eviction notice earlier in the week, compelling her to vacate the premises immediately. The notice, issued by the Directorate of Estates under the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, warned of possible eviction using force if she failed to comply.

The eviction proceedings were set in motion by a team of officials from the Directorate of Estates, who initiated the drive at 9B, Telegraph Lane, the official residence allocated to Moitra during her tenure as a Lok Sabha MP.

Moitra was held guilty by Lok Sabha in context to the “unethical conduct” on December 8 last year. She was accused of accepting gifts from businessman Darshan Hiranandani and sharing her user ID and password for the Parliament website with him.
