A video that has gone viral on social media has drawn widespread condemnation, showing an air conditioner technician being subjected to religious discrimination and intimidation. The technician, who belongs to the Muslim community, was reportedly denied entry into a customer’s home after revealing his name and religion.
According to the video, the woman homeowner asked the technician for his name, and upon learning that he was Muslim, refused to let him carry out the service. She told him, “We will not let you work here,” and even threatened to release her dog on him if he did not leave immediately.
In the video, the technician can be heard confronting the woman, saying, “We will report this at your office to have this done by a Hindu. Isn’t that what you said?” as he recorded the incident to document the abuse.
The woman, seemingly angered by being filmed, then threatened the technician, warning, “Leave from here. Don’t make the video. If you do, you will face consequences.”
The technician, visibly distressed, lamented the hostility he encountered. “Someone comes to work in this heat and is asked about their religion. This is the condition,” he says in the video.
He further claimed that the woman accused Muslims of “disrupting Hindustan” and explicitly told him, “We would not work with you,” solely on the basis of his faith.
The incident has emerged just days after BJP leader Dewmani Sharma publicly refused service from two Muslim AC technicians associated with UrbanClap, citing security concerns following the recent Pahalgam terror attack.
In the wake of that attack, the Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) has documented over 184 incidents of anti-Muslim hate crimes across India. These include cases of intimidation, physical violence, and vandalism of Muslim-owned establishments.
The technician’s video has reignited debate over rising religious intolerance and the need for stronger protections against hate-motivated discrimination in the workplace.
