Thousands Gather in Kochi for IUML Event Expressing Solidarity with Gaza

Date:

Thousands gathered at a conference organized by the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) on Thursday in Ernakulam’s Marine Drive to show solidarity with Palestinians and voice concern over the escalating war crimes committed by Israel.

The event was graced by Palestinian Ambassador Abdullah Muhammad Abu Shawaesh, who shared a poignant account of Palestine’s long history of suffering, emphasizing that the current conflict is part of a much deeper, longstanding struggle. “Our pain didn’t begin on October 7,” he said, “but stretches back thousands of years. This is not a conflict between Muslims and Jews, it’s a matter of humanity and international law.”

The conference drew key IUML leaders, including P K Kunhalikutty, P V Abdul Wahab, and Haris Beeran, along with prominent figures such as Kerala’s Jamiat Ulema General Secretary Thodiyoor Muhammad, journalist Venkatesh Ramakrishnan, and Father Thomas Tharayil from the Catholic Bishops’ Council.

P K Kunhalikutty compared Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to the biblical Pharaoh, warning that history has already judged such figures harshly. He highlighted the urgent need to condemn the mass killing of Gazan children and to stand firmly against these atrocities.

Speakers collectively voiced their unwavering support for Palestinians, calling for unity in opposing oppression and ethnic cleansing while demanding accountability and justice for war crimes.
