As updated by the local health officials, the death toll in the Gaza Strip from the Israeli- Gaza war has surpassed 44,000. The Gaza Health Ministry that does not differentiate between civilians and combatants in its count has said that more than half of the fatalities are women and children.
The Health Ministry has updated that 44,056 people have been killed and 104,268 have been wounded since the start of the war. It further said that the real toll is higher than this because thousands of bodies are buried under rubble.
As per the Business Standards, around 90 per cent of the population of 2.3 million people have been displaced and hundreds of thousands are living in squalid tent camps with little food, water or basic services.
In past weeks, the amount of humanitarian aid entering Gaza has reportedly plummeted. The United States initially threatened to scale back its military support for Israel due to limited progress in the conflict, before ultimately backing down. Meanwhile, experts have raised concerns that northern Gaza, already isolated and devastated by the war, may be on the brink of famine.
