A Muslim imaan was forced to chant “Jai Shri Ram” by a group of people in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district. An FIR has been registered in the case followed by the intervention by AIMIM national spokesperson Warsi Pathan.
The imam identified as Hafiz Qasam from Marul village in Jalgaon’s Yawal taluka was travelling to Parola village to lead prayers. According to Pathan, Imam was allegedly intercepted by at least four men on his way and forced to raise “Jai Shree Ram.”
The video of the incident made rounds on the internet.
Pathan revealed that the matter has been flagged with senior police officials and further demanded a formal complaint against the matter.
“An FIR has now been registered against those involved,” he said.
Ahead of this, another video made rounds on the internet showing one of the alleged perpetrators apologizing for hurting the sentiments of Muslims.
A similar incident occurred in Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur district, where two youths were forced to chant “Jai Shri Ram” by a Hindu right-wing mob. When the youths reduced to chanting it, they were beaten. The assailants kicked and slapped the two youths as they sat on their bike.
The video of this incident also made rounds on the internet. In the video, the attackers are heard saying, “Bharat mei hokar Jai Shri Ram nahi bologey? (You live in India, and you won’t say Jai Shri Ram?).”
Police have launched an investigation based on the video. “In the case, two accused have been identified. Teams have been formed for their arrest, following which other proceedings will take place,” said the Lambhua area officer.
“Taking cognizance of a viral video of a brawl on social media, the Chandwa police station, Sultanpur, conducted an investigation. The video is from the Faramapur area. In the case, 2 accused have been identified; regarding the arrest and other proceedings, a byte from the area officer Lambhua,” the X account of Sultanpur Police reads.
However, no arrests have been made.
