Following the alleged police brutality on students, leading them severely injured, Anita Dipke, the mother of founder of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), has sent her concerns over the lathi charge on protesting students. She said it was extremely painful to watch them being beaten, appealing to the government to listen to the agitating students and release those who were detained.
“It is extremely painful to see students being beaten like animals. I wish the government would listen to the agitating students and release them as soon as possible. I am worried after seeing the students beaten brutally. Watching all this has left me emotional,” she said talking to Marathi news channel Zee 24 Taas in Chhatrapati Sambha jinagar.
The police reportedly used sticks and batons to disperse the crowd who came together at the protest sites for the “Chalo Sansad” march following the alleged paper leak in NEET, leading to a demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
However, the Delhi Police post on X read, “Some segments from media have mentioned sporadic use of violence/detentions at Jantar Mantar by Delhi Police.
It is informed that no such incident has taken place and the protest is being handled professionally. All are requested not to fall prey to any rumors/misgivings and to assist Delhi Police in maintaining peace and public order at and around the site.”
Labelling the alleged police brutality as “animal like”, Anita Dipke said, students were beaten without doing anything and she fears what would happen to them.
“The government is simply buying time. It won elections with the support of people, but is now not listening to them. Students are demanding the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, and the government should listen to them,” she said, accusing the government of stalling on the students’ demands.
“The first mistake was made by the government when it used lathis on the students who had been protesting peacefully for a month. Had it heard their demands earlier, the situation would not have worsened,” she added.
